Mochamail uses IMAP and POP3 for mail retrieval. It can also run on different operating systems like Windows, Unix, Linux, MacOS and OS/2. Even though Mochamail has a web interface and can be termed as a competitor to other traditional web mail systems, it has a lot of advantages over them. Mochamail is designed to meet the needs of the rapidly emerging Internet appliance and broadband Internet markets. Broadband service providers can take advantage of the rich features in Mochamail to deliver an enhanced email experienced to the customer’s Internet enabled device. By incorporating Mochamail into handheld devices, the user can get the ease of use with the windows-like feel even on non-Windows platform.
Mochamail has features like access to multiple IMAP folders, multiple remote mailboxes by using the POP3 and IMAP protocols, spell-checker, HTML messages, attachment support, ability to save draft messages for later editing, address book, return receipts, and per-user preferences for colors, fonts, and window sizes. The Mochamail interface can be tweaked to match the preferences set by the service provider for such attributes as colors, fonts, toolbar button graphics, online help content, and user interface text. A single instance of Mochamail server can function over several servers to achieve scalability and load distribution.
Just like a desktop client, Mochamail is easy, fast and convenient to use. It is free of cost and even the server version designed for enterprise customers comes at a nominal price. There are already several web based interface mail client which are offering this type of applet like functions complete with menu and drop down boxes. The disadvantage of these type of applets are that they take much more time to download than traditional web interfaces. However mail clients like the Mochamail are designed keeping the penetration of broadband in mind as the number of dial-up access users is dwindling day by day.
